8 Reasons Why You Should Still Send CD Portfolios

make promotional cd

Here are some reasons why you should still send out CD portfolios even if you already have an awesome website:

It makes the recipients feel important. When they receive your good-looking CD portfolio, they’d feel special because you actually looked for their addresses and gave them something valuable. When I say valuable, I mean 1. it has money value because you actually spent money in making the CD and mailing it, and 2. It is a thing with importance because the content is good and the CD packaging looks good.

It makes YOU feel important. You’d be beaming with pride when you hand prospects your kick-ass business card but you’d be rapturous and ecstatic when you hand your business card together with your CD-Rom portfolio. That kind of feeling is priceless.

You can send it out to thousands of people. You can only give business cards to people that you meet face to face but you cannot send them business cards to the mailboxes of your prospects. Or if you would, it would not be too appealing. With CD-Rom portfolios, you can send them to anyone, anywhere without getting people’s dumbfounded expressions. AND there’s proof that sending promo CDs still work.

It gives you a professional appeal. Which gives you an impression that a photographer is professional? Someone who hands you a a business card with their website URL in it or someone who hands you a business card AND a CD portfolio nicely wrapped in a creative packaging? I think most of us think it’s the latter.

People still want to check out the real thing. In the digital age where anyone can make themselves look good online, people have become choosier and less trusting.  Some people now doubt any beautiful thing they see or read online especially if they’re going to pay for it. All of these businesses put their best foot forward online, they figured. Despite the advancement of technology, people still want to examine the real thing before making any purchase. And this is the closest we can get to a real thing.

It pushes them to check out your work. Because they know you spent some money in making the disc and shipping them, they would think that you are really confident of your work or product. Only artists who are confident of their workare willing to spend money in marketing them. They would also think that you really took the effort to send them something so they feel a bit obliged to insert your disc in their players.

They will view MORE of your work. Since they already went through the trouble of inserting your CD-ROM to their players, then I bet they will not just view 2 to 3 pictures of your photography portfolio. I bet they would actually view at least 20 pictures so their effort (albeit, very small) would pay off. I do not think the case is the same with websites. Websites are ‘effortless’ so they do not feel the need to seize anything.

Your contact details are less dispensable. If you put your contact details in the packaging of your CD-ROM portfolio, then there is a lesser chance that they’ll lose your number. Compared to papers and cards, not too many people throw away CDs. But of course, you still need to attach your business card to your CD-ROM portfolio so they can have your contacts handy.
