CD Artwork Concepts: Guys with Big Bellies

One surefire way of getting people’s attention is by exposing ‘physical assets’. No wonder we see lots of album covers with girls in their bikinis and guys with their shirts off. I think showing lots of skin and exuding sexy vibes may be effective since a lot of bands are using it since the beginning of time. This is not something new. Sex sells…or sexiness sells. But what about those that are the opposite of our typical sexy? You know…big round ‘unattractive’ bellies, hairy chests?…the anti-sexy?

Well, I like this artwork of Bloodhound Gang’s, Hefty Fine album. Eight out of nine it would get more attention than those ‘cool’ overdesigned albums out there. The beauty about these album covers is that they’re highlighting the ‘flaws’ and the real-ness of the human body that it becomes a great art. The body itself becomes the artwork.

What I love most about this cover of Fat Music Vol V is the concept and the copy. Copy says Live Fat, Die Young and the image is that of  a fat guy having the time of his life bungee jumping…It is saying ” Yeah, I’m fat but I’m having fun. You anorexics should probably care less about how you look and start living!”

I do not like this cover but it does get my attention-in an awful way. It’s ugly, it’s scandalous from the album title to the image, it makes me say WTF….but well, it got my attention. WTF

Oh lala. How hot is this?

This is the UK album cover, which featured an obese man (identified in the CD inlay as Mark Johnson). It was changed for the American release to a cover featuring shelves of vinyl records. I don’t know why.

Some of these artworks are meant to mock the concept of beauty, to question some standards, and to push our limits. Some are just meant to get our attention by being different.

Do you know album covers that we can add to this list?
