CD Packaging: MUM- Go Go Smear the Poison Ivy

Stare at these images for one whole minute without blinking and you will get goose bumps all over. The ‘paper-cut’ pictures of kids pasted on eerie photographs of the woods, lake, and mountains have a haunting effect. It’s as if these kids were murdered in these places and that they are now lonely wandering spirits looking for justice. Maybe it’s because of how these little kids were sketched. Examine their faces. They look really old. Or maybe, maybe I just had too much coffee. Please tell me if it has the same effect on you.

This strange, almost hypnotizing, album artwork is created by Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir for the Icelandic band Mum. Four interchangeable cards containing 7 of Birgisdóttir’s illustrations are inserted into the package. These can be swapped around to change the front cover image on the album.

You know what’s really great about this packaging? It is 100% recyclable-Carbon Neutral as its made of starch, potato and water. Bravo!
