Modern Marketing Strategies for Photographers

Today, it is not enough that you put a banner of your goods and services outside your store. In fact, it is a bit tacky and unnecessary- and really, really, backward. Today, there are countless of ways businesses can advertise their services without looking cheap and without spending one cent. Thanks to the internet, everything is cheaper and a lot easier.

Here are some of the more modern ways to market your photography business:

Use Pinterest

If you still haven’t tried Pinterest, you should now! (And check-out our awesome Pinterest boards.) I have a strong conviction that Pinterest is here to stay. It is a content sharing service that allows members to “pin” images, videos and other objects to their pinboard. People can like and repin your images, and the best thing is you’re your link is automatically placed on the pins. People want to view wonderful images quickly. They’re getting tired of stupid articles on the internet. And this is a great way to market your photography business without looking too desperate.

QR Codes

QR Codes or Quick Response Codes are formerly confined to industrial uses but in recent years, they have become common in consumer advertising and packaging. QR Codes can be placed anywhere- and when people snap the QR Code photo using their smartphone, it will lead them to a website. You may put QR codes to your business card, brochure, CDs,etc. There are tons of ways to get creative with QR Codes!

USB Flash Drives

In the age of Facebook and Tumblr, everybody wants a soft copy of their photos. Instead of storing their photos in CD-Roms, why don’t you put those files in a custom USB Flash Drive? It’s a novelty item that’s easy to carry and functional. Put your logo and name on the USB drive. Give your clients an option to customize their USB flash drives. You can offer then USB bracelets, USB necklaces, and other cute USB Flash Drive designs which would serve as perfect giveaways for any event.

Viral Photos

If you have a busy online life, you’d notice that everyone’s posting those lovely pictures with inspirational quotes and whatnot.  Put your signature or website at the bottom of these images and start posting on Tumblr,Facebook, Pinterest, and other social networks. Just make sure you don’t make your company look cheap. Choose the best photos and put good captions.

Creative CD Packaging

If you’re going to send out portfolio CDs or if you’re going to send soft copies of pictures to your clients, then you better make a CD packaging that gives a lasting impression. Your packaging should match your company’s brand. If you want people to think of you as the fun, quirky photo company, then fun and quirky should translate to your CD packaging. If you want people to think of you as the clean, minimalist, but edgy company, your CD packaging should also be clean, minimalist, and edgy.

E-mail Marketing

People will forget you if you don’t get in touch. Send your clients e-mails once in a while. Once or twice a month is fine. Just make your e-mails a bit personal and share some of your photos that you think will leave a good impression.
