The New Stuff

Will Netflix release their movies and/or TV shows on DVD?

In today’s world, almost anything can be accessed in less than a minute– a Tinder date, late night snacks, Grab car at 3am, and of course our favorite TV shows. With just a few clicks, we can play and replay our favorite TV shows thanks to streaming services like Netflix. But the easy access also makes certain things less special. As they say, “anything easy is meh.” There’s just something magical about owning a physical copy (aka a DVD disc) of your favorite shows neatly tucked in their badass DVD packaging. Besides, DVD and Bluray comes with all the good stuff like behind-the-scenes videos and more. For this reason and more, 2.7 million Americans still get Netflix DVDs.

So YES,  Netflix has been releasing their most famous TV shows on DVD. HOWEVER NO, they have not released their Original movies like Alfonso Cuaron’s Award-winning film ROMAThe Coen Brothers’ surprise Western anthology film The Ballad of Buster Scruggsor Martin Scorsese’s gangster epic The IrishmanThe theory, by Collider, is that Netflix doesn’t want to release their movies on DVD because they want them to be available only online to attract new subscribers.

Let’s just focus our attention to the Netflix TV Shows DVDs then. They release their best DVD editions in creative DVD packaging for the hardcore fans who want to show off just how much they love their Netflix TV shows. Lest we forget, Netflix was originally known for their DVD rental  service and they still haven’t forgotten about it.

Here are some of the Netflix TV Shows on DVD:

STRANGER THINGS SPECIAL EDITION DVD SET in “VHS TAPE”

Since Stranger Things is about all things 80s, then it’s also fitting that their DVD is in a realistic looking VHS cassette tape. It was even made to look old and tattered like it’s one of those legit VHS tapes. You slide the “tape” from its packaging and open the VHS to reveal the discs. Why is Stranger Things so cool?!?

NARCOS SEASON 1-3 DVD

Not as fancy as the Stranger Things DVD but will still look handsome on your DVD shelf. Comes with many featurettes and deleted scenes.

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK DVD

This set of DVD disc is just for the fifth season of Orange is the New Black. You can also purchase the whole set (Seasons 1-5). Which just proves that Netflix is very much active in making DVDs!

JESSICA JONES SEASON 1 DVD

Marvel’s Jessica Jones is one of the additions to Netflix’s original shows that got released on DVD. If you’re into detective shows, this is it. Former superhero Jessica Jones opens her own detective agency after her superhero career comes to an end. The DVD looks sleek and classy like Jessica!

Other Netflix Original TV series in DVD include:

The Crown

Dear White People

The Fall

Grace and Frankie

Longmire

Marcella

Narcos

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Aside from Netflix’s Original TV Shows, many DVD and Bluray sellers also keep selling DVDs because it’s still a good market. As Netflix loses TV favorites like ‘The Office’ to new rivals, DVD and Blu-ray sellers see a big opportunity because if you have a DVD, then you have it forever (unless someone robs your collection) and that means that even if Netflix or any other streaming service would remove some shows (and they do remove a lot of shows), then you can still watch your favorite TV shows.

This just proves to show, that just like the vinyl and CD, the physical format would still remain relevant and would not go away in the future. No matter what statistics say, and of course it’s true that the physical format has been decreasing is sales for years, but we, as a company that offers dvd duplication services, can say with 100% certainty, that DVD and Bluray will still be around in the years to come.
